Here we have for sale this wonderful slimline vintage manual winding Garrard mechanical watch in excellent used condition. The watch has been fully serviced and thus sets and winds nicely and is in perfect working order. A quality new black leather strap and acrylic glass have been fitted to finish the watch off nicely. The dial looks super with a very light patina; it has raised golden Arabic numerals, gold-coloured hands, and a sub-seconds dial. It really does make a wonderful dress watch that could be worn for special occasions but equally could be used for everyday wear as the timekeeping is very accurate for a vintage mechanical watch (though don't expect quartz accuracy).
Technical Details: The watch is fitted with a nice copper-tinted ETA 1280 mechanical hand-winding movement. The watch movement was working when I acquired it last year but was in need of a good service. The watch has been completely stripped down and examined and then all components thoroughly cleaned using my professional watch cleaning machine. This was followed by a full lubrication service using Swiss Moebius oils. During the service I have replaced with new, the worn mainspring, broken setting lever spring, broken stem and the crown. Once reassembled, the watch has been timed on a professional timegrapher and is keeping good time to within +/- 15 seconds per day (great for a mechanical timepiece of this age). The balance is good with no excessive end shake and now has a good amplitude of around 315° (a very healthy tick), and the beat error has been adjusted down to 0.3ms.
When refitting the movement into the case, I noticed it was a little loose for my liking (potentially the original dial spacer has been lost at some point) so I have used a waterproof case seal to compensate, which has resolved it. Some of the photos show the snapshots during servicing. Servicing takes up to 6 hours to complete properly - I don't cut corners!
Every part is inspected carefully and replaced if not to standard. Even after cleaning through the machine, each part is further cleaned as necessary with peg wood and Rodico cleaning putty to ensure everything is spotless. Only then are the parts assembled and oiled in the rebuild.
A mechanical watch like this should be serviced about every 4 to 5 years. About me: I'm an enthusiastic hobbyist watchmaker who has learnt the watchmaking craft over the past few years with great success. I take time to do things properly using the correct tools and consumables used by professionals, and have had some very satisfied buyers.
I would never knowingly sell a watch that has a fault (unless stated in the listing). The completed watch is tested for several days on the wrist to ensure it performs well and keeps good time. The watch and box will be packaged in bubble wrap and placed in a padded jiffy bag. This item is in the category "Jewellery & Watches\Watches, Parts & Accessories\Watches\Wristwatches".
