The factory that produced this model was founded by the order of Joseph Stalin to build the First State Watch Factory (????????????????????????????????? Later the name was changed to Kirov Watch Factory. During the WW2 and up until 1946, the factory mainly produced watches for military purpose without specific names and the models simply called "Kirovka".

From 1946, the first "POBEDA" (??????) model was introduced which literally meant Victory and was a tribute to the end of the WW2.

In 1961, the factory produced a watch Sturmanskie (translates to "Navigator's") exclusively for Yuri Gagarin and the first outer space flight. The production of this model and more than 110 variations of the POLJOT wristwatch started after the 1960s.

It became one of the most popular models in the Soviet Union along with Vostok and Raketa. At the peak of its popularity in 1973 there were more than 3 million of the watches produced.
